Independent Punjabi Rap Record Label/Music Publisher Collab Creations are recruiting for a part time Label Assistant/Junior A&R Administrator to join the team in our West London office. Collab Creations is an innovative and respected Record Label operating within the considerably expanding space of Punjabi Rap music.
Having worked with the likes of AP Dhillon, Manni Sandhu, Sukha, Tegi Pannu, Navaan Sandhu, Jasmine Sandlas and many more, we’re a fast-growing label with a deep commitment to discovering and nurturing the next generation of talent.
This role will be office based with some remote working.
Label Assistant/Junior A&R Administrator
Job Specification
Key Responsibilites:
- General administrative responsibilities: Provide day-to-day administrative assistance to the Directors, including responding to enquiries via email/phone, managing calendars, organising meetings, and handling general office tasks.
- Label administrative responsibilities: Use Xerox to keep company spend and project budgets on track. Maintain online store and label website. Provide details of song registrations to Publisher and register songs with Charts Company. Arrange travel/accommodation, submit releases to radio stations, create press releases, arrange artist photoshoots/video shoots, manage merch/physical media orders, arrange artist visas, work with designers and press plants to create physical CD’s/Vinyls as per deadlines.
- Acting on leads: Follow up on leads by Directors to discuss signing deals with artists, collaborations and publishing.
Relationship building: Maintain and build strong relationships with external stakeholders and partners including DSP’s, publisher, artist, artist managers, producers, songwriters, radio stations, DJ’s and other industry professionals to expand the label’s network. This will include holding/attending meetings to showcase and discover opportunities to promote upcoming and existing releases. - Key point of contact: Act as primary point of contact for label partners (distributor/publisher), liaise with legal team for legal queries and finalising deals. Attend meetings with stakeholders.
- Creative input: on existing and upcoming projects with involvement in all aspects of implementing release campaigns, including sourcing external designers for cover art, creating or assisting in the creation of promotional assets for releases, and implementing innovative and effective marketing campaigns.
- Talent discovery: Scout and identify promising Panjabi music artists and producers who align with our label’s vision and aesthetic.
- Stay updated with current music trends, emerging genres, and underground scenes. Arrange and attend studio sessions.
- Project Management: Oversee the entire A&R process for assigned artists, from discovery and signing to production, release strategy, and promotional campaigns. Work with music video directors to plan and arrange music videos in line with budget. Plan and arrange live shows for artists.
- Contract Negotiations: Negotiate contracts with artists, artist managers, producers, and other key stakeholders, ensuring mutually beneficial partnerships that align with the label’s goals. Act on leads from Directors to purchase catalogue. Ensure releases are clear for release. Responsibilities include preparing agreements for artists, producers, featured artists and loop markers. Clearing all samples and paying any fees or advances.
- Budget Oversight: Manage budgets related to talent acquisition, recording, and promotion to maximize impact and ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Travel: Some overseas travel may be required. Must be willing and able to attend recording sessions, music video shoots, concerts, rehearsals, artist appearances, and photo and video shoots as requested.
- Social Media: Keep company and artist social media up to date, implementing new and innovative ideas and posting regularly in order to boost engagement and label presence.
- Office/Remote based working: ability to work from the label’s offices in London with an element of remote working.
- Future Vision: Explore new unexplored avenues for the label such as merchandise and help with the implementation of this.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Knowledge of and interest in working in the music industry with a passion for Panjabi music
- A self-motivated networker who can build relationships with stakeholders and industry professionals, providing support where needed and being a point of contact
- Organised creative self-starter, meticulous attention to detail and comfortable working in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment while managing multiple priorities
- Work as part of a team across a diverse network of Artists, Producers & Writers on a global basis
- Ability to negotiate song, project and artist recording deals
- A great problem solver – who can anticipate potential problems and respond accordingly
- Exceptional writing, organisation and communication skills
- Proficient computer and software skills (Xerox, Excel, Google Drive/Docs/Sheets, Gmail)\Proficient knowledge of DSPs and their basic functionality (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Soundcloud etc.)
- Social media savvy and familiar with all social media platforms
- Strong artist relation skills
- Ability to handle and defuse intense situations
- Ability to handle talent relations effectively
- Ability to work individually and as part of a team environment
Desirable:
- Fluency in Punjabi
- Record Label or Music Publishing experience
- Have an understanding of publishing, songwriting splits, Producer royalties
- Review and understand legal contracts and be comfortable upholding legal standards
- A keen ear for talent, with the ability to spot unique sounds and potential for commercial success
